How to Enter Offshore Industry

If you want to work offshore , should be very good physical condition. You have to realize that working in offshore will be far from family , friends and work in extreme situations, unpredictable weather, high waves and windy. Some positions do not require formal education as floorman , Roustabouts and Roughneck . 
To work at supervisor level you need a certain certificate and are required to have leadership qualities , integrity , discipline and fluent in English both oral and written . Everyone has the same opportunity , only the desire and determination that set , if you want to work in the offshore sector, the opportunity is still wide open to everyone.  In the Offshore drilling industries, there are a lot of positions are offered depending on education, skills and capabilities, level of expertise and so on, but the most important to everyone who want to work in offshore industries, they should adjusting working hours which quite different compare with other sector. 
The Offshore work time is around 10-12 hours during a day, you may have a night shift or a day shift its depends on the schedule which set by the company. You need to work 35 on/off, which means you will have duty on work 35 days, and 35 days on holiday, and the new policy which set by some big companies like chevron, Bp, set 3 weeks on/off. The offshore sector salaries are much higher than salary of onshore fields, its higher 30-50 percent compare more than those working in the onshore, there are many positions that are offered to work in the offshore rig, starting from the position of roustabout, floorman, engineer, driller, and rig superintendent.
Offshore Jobs:
Derrickman
according to the HR reported data per May 2015, the annual salary of derrickman is vary depending on some factors, including company size, location, years of experience and level of education. In the U.S annual pay for a typical Derrickman is approximetly around $58,455.

EHS (Enviromental Health & Safety) Advisor
Salary $59,923 - $170,43, the EHS advisor responsiblities to provide the site with health, safety and environmental advice, support, coordination and where relevant leadership as a member of the EHS Team enabling them to comply with current Environment, Health and Safety and legislation and Company standard.

Drilling Engineer
Salary $ 120,000 - $154,000, Drilling engineer responsibility to manage and supervise the drilling of a well to produce oil and gas as safety and efficently.

Subsea Engineer
Salary $65,378 - $171,579, A Subsea engineer has duty to perform repairs or maintenance to the well controll, support and plan repairs for subsea installations, develop plans and identify materials for subsea installation. The average salary is $93,026 per year. 

Chief Mechanical Engineer
Salary $61,1007 - $153,946, Chief Mechanical Engineeri responsibility including to performs engineering duties, estimates time and cost to complete projects, researched design and makes recommendations based on safety, budget and fuction. The average pay for a Chief Mechanical Engineer approximetly $97,468 per year.

Some respondents expressed positive thing when working offshore are :
  • Salaries were much higher .
  • Location is always different , allowing to visit many countries .
  • Have many friends from different countries.
  • The food was delicious and all the facilities available in the platform .
  • Interest and love this area .
  • Have a lot of time at home and on vacation with family during off time .
  • Challenging work and the opportunity to go by the helicopter. where there is no profession offered such as in offshore .

Negative things that are not favored when working in offshore :
  • Leave the family in a relatively long time.
  • Natural conditions sometimes high waves , winds and extreme weather are unpredictable .
  • Safety and fears of an accident at work which can be fatal , either loss of life or disability .
  • Hard work continuously 10-12 hours in a row and in a relatively long time, sometimes the night shift .
  • Sea view daily in a relatively long time is usually 35 days and depending on the policy of the company.
